Daniel Tricarico: Helping Businesses Become More Sustainable through Innovation

Ladderworks is a publishing platform of diverse picture books and online curriculum with the mission to empower over a million kids to become social entrepreneurs. Our current series features interviews by our interplanetary journalist Spiffy with inspiring Social Entrepreneurs, Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Builders, and Changemakers who are advancing the UN SDGs.

Spiffy here with the scoop on the entrepreneurial leaders of Planet Earth. As the only interplanetary journalist stationed on this blue planet, I’m thrilled to present this galactic exclusive with Daniel Tricarico, the founder and CEO of IMPACT/LATAM. Let’s learn what’s happening at IMPACT/LATAM and how Dani is making a positive impact in the world.

Spiffy: Thanks for joining me, Dani! Tell me, what challenge are you addressing through IMPACT/LATAM?

Dani: Thanks for having me, Spiffy! Imagine Latin America as a neighborhood with different houses. Some houses are big and have everything they need, while others are smaller and don't have as much. IMPACT/LATAM wants to help make the neighborhood more fair by helping all the houses, whether big or small, become more sustainable. IMPACT/LATAM helps businesses become more sustainable by teaching them how they can use less energy, produce less waste, and create jobs for everyone through innovation. We also help businesses save money and make more profit. So, if you want to help make Latin America a more fair and sustainable place, IMPACT/LATAM is a great place to start!

Spiffy: What motivated you to do it?

Dani: I was born in Argentina, a country that has had a lot of economic problems. When I was a child, my family lost our house because of the economic breakdown. This experience taught me about the importance of economic justice. I decided to become a business leader so that I could help create a more just and sustainable world. I believe that businesses can have a positive impact on society by creating jobs, reducing poverty, and protecting the environment. I am working to help businesses become more sustainable by reducing their environmental impact and creating more opportunities for people. I believe that more conscious businesses can help create a better future for Latin America and the world.

Spiffy: How would you say that your organization is working towards a more equitable world?

Dani: Some specific examples of how IMPACT/LATAM helps businesses become more sustainable are by providing a podcast that showcases good practices in sustainability, offering services to help businesses measure their economic, social, and environmental impact; and providing consulting to help businesses accelerate their sustainability efforts.

Spiffy: Tell me about a recent organization milestone or initiative. What impact does it make on your audience/community?

Dani: Currently, our podcast has reached over 10,000 listens—democratizing access to the topics of innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability in Latin America and the southern United States. Additionally, at the beginning of the year, I had the personal privilege of being recognized as one of the 200 sustainable innovators in Chile for IMPACT/LATAM´s work within the country and region.

Spiffy: Tell me about an inspiring startup that your organization has helped to advance its impact.

Dani: Imagine a company that delivers packages to your door. This is what Rayo does. Rayo is working to make the world a better place by making sure that its employees are paid fair wages and have benefits—a practice known as labor formalization. IMPACT/LATAM is working with Rayo to help them achieve labor formalization to help to create a more equitable and just society.

Spiffy: Is there anything else you would love to tell our audience?

Dani: Imagine that you want to make a difference in the world. How do you do it? One way is to look deep within yourself and find your true purpose: What are you passionate about? What do you care about? Once you know your purpose, you can start working towards it. My purpose is to create a more just and equitable society. I believe that change and social mobility are essential to achieving this goal. Finally, if you found this interesting I invite you to watch my TEDx talk to learn more about my experiences, purpose, and life journey. I do hope that my own personal story will inspire you to find your own purpose and make a difference in the world.

Spiffy: Thanks for speaking with me today, Dani—it’s been an honor!
