Amir Zonozi: Helping More Women Enter the Arena of Sports and Technology

Ladderworks is a publishing platform of diverse picture books and online curriculum with the mission to empower over a million kids to become social entrepreneurs. Our current series features interviews by our interplanetary journalist Spiffy with inspiring Social Entrepreneurs, Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Builders, and Changemakers who are advancing the UN SDGs.

Hi! It’s me, Spiffy, the interplanetary journalist reporting from Planet Earth with the latest scoop on entrepreneurs making a difference for all of us around the world! Today’s rockstar is Amir Zonozi, the president and co-founder of Zoomph, working towards SDG 5: Gender Equality.

Spiffy: Hey Amir, welcome to the blog! Let’s jump right in. What challenge is Zoomph addressing?

Amir: Thanks for having me, Spiffy! We see a lot of men and boys in sports and technology; we want to help bring more girls and women into sports and technology too, so that we can achieve more as a group.

Spiffy: What motivates you to do it?

Amir: The more different types of people you have on your team, the better the team is. We want to make sure that we have enough types of people on our team to be able to think of all the ways that we can win together.

Spiffy: What would you say is the impact of your work?

Amir: When we help girls and women get more experience working in sports and technology, it will be easier for them to enter and help change the space.

Spiffy: Tell me about a recent company milestone or initiative, and the impact it makes.

Amir: Fellowships from Women in Sports Tech (WiST) are up 900% since 2018 with 27 WiST Fellows. We're excited to make this number grow!

Spiffy: Wow, that is amazing! Is there anything else you would love to tell our audience before I let you go?

Amir: Everyone brings value to every team in different ways. Always look at how you can best help your team by making sure you have people of all types helping you think of ways to win.

Spiffy: Thanks for speaking with me today, Amir—it’s been an honor!
