Chris: StartOut’s mission is to increase the number, diversity, and impact of LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs and amplify their stories to drive the economic empowerment of the community. StartOut has three main challenges that we are trying to address. First, the lack of safe space and safe community for LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs. Second, the lack of access to business networks and entrepreneurship resources, no matter where founders live and where they are at in their journey. And finally, the lack of role models and success stories.

People that leave traditional jobs to start businesses are up against tons of challenges—from staying on top of goals to building a team to funding their companies. FinRoth, our web-based application, is for dreamers. It helps to prepare startups for funding by giving them the tools to run their projects more efficiently.

Shawon Jackson: Public Speaking Empowers Socially Conscious Black and Brown Leaders

Shawon: Our mission at Vocal Justice is to empower undervalued Black and Brown youth to become socially conscious leaders through a culturally affirming public speaking program. We help students develop a deeper understanding of how they can use their voice to tackle the very injustices they have seen and experienced firsthand, along with the persuasion and storytelling skills to do so. Ultimately, our students will become justice-oriented civic leaders, who constantly use their voice to advocate for a kinder, more just world—wherever they choose to lead in life.
