As a physician and a trans woman, I have been both a patient and a medical provider of gender-affirming care. I have provided gender-affirming care training to many academic institutions and healthcare facilities. It has always been my passion to make healthcare better for all patients and medical providers, and I have seen the pain points and the many barriers which keep trans people out of the healthcare system. Our goal at Plume is to eliminate these barriers and create a space that provides safe, expert, convenient, and radically affirming care to support folks in their gender journey – and we will continue to be motivated to do this work until that is the case for every trans person.

Remember to get permission before doing anything involving someone else’s body, and speak up if you don’t want something to happen to your body. You deserve to feel comfortable in your skin. Remember always: you are the boss of your body.

Bringing Queerly Pride to our Healthcare

Derrick: People often say they want to become founders because they don't want to work for anyone else, they don't want to answer to someone, and they don't want anyone to tell them what to do. If you start a company with this mindset, you have a big storm coming. I hire people to tell me what to do. I work for them. I work for our customers and people who'll be using our platform. I work in service to our broader goal to end LGBTQ+ health disparities.
