Katerina Chatzi: Curative Therapies for Autoimmune Diseases

Katerina Chatzi: Curative Therapies for Autoimmune Diseases

Katerina: Thanks for the invite to be here today, Spiffy! Promakhos Therapeutics develops cures for autoimmune diseases. Millions of people around the globe suffer from such diseases. Yet, there are no cures. Current treatments block our immune system to manage symptoms and usually work for a limited time. Instead of dampening down the immune system, we develop molecules inspired by our body’s resident bacteria, to awaken our innate ability to resolve inflammation and heal. By targeting the root cause of the problem, we strive to deliver curative therapies.

Liane Clamen: Revolutionizing the Way Vision is Corrected

Liane: Thanks for having me, Spiffy! Our mission at Adaptilens is to revolutionize the way vision is corrected by developing an artificial lens that imitates the natural, human lens. Like the human lens, Adaptilens will be soft and flexible so the muscles of accommodation inside the eye can change the shape of the lens, thereby changing its power. We call this ability of the eye to increase its power so we can see clearly at near distances “accommodation.” With Adaptilens, an Accommodative Intraocular Lens, people will be able to see clearly at near, intermediate, and distance without glasses or contact lenses.

Gili Naveh: Home Dental Monitoring Enables Early Detection, Transforms Oral Health

Gili: Thanks for having me, Spiffy! Do you know that nine out of ten adults and more than half of the children have tooth decay? Dental cavities (tooth decay) are unpleasant to have since they cause pain, infections, unpleasant treatments in the dental office, and they make our smile ugly. As scientists we know exactly how dental cavities form and grow. We also know that at early stages, dental cavities are reversible, which means you can treat them without any drilling or fillings. The problem is that at this point dentists don't have the right tools to identify cavities at these early stages, and therefore they do many fillings. This is where CaviSense is getting into the picture. We developed a device that helps dentists to see these early-stage cavities and reverse them.
